BANGKOK- Tourists at Ao Phang Nga National Park have been able catch a rare glimpse of a whale shark that visited the area.
Officials at the national park were able to capture video footage of the whale shark as it swam into more shallow waters along Ko Hong at the Phi Phi Islands. The last sighting was in October of this year, a demonstration of the area’s attractiveness to marine wildlife.
Officials remarked that whale sharks generally reside in deeper water levels. However, their familiarity to humans have made them more willing to swim near boats. Therefore, tourists have been advised against feeding or making contact with the sharks as they could cause unintended injuries.
