The “SAKE WEEK Thailand 2024: Japanese Sake Festival” recently took place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The event, supported by the Japanese Embassy in Thailand and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO Bangkok), brought together key figures and celebrated the rich traditions of Japanese sake and Thai sato.
Notable attendees included Sanan Angubolkul, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, KURODA Jun, President of JETRO Bangkok, and OTAKA Masato, Japanese Ambassador to Thailand. A key highlight of the event was the Traditional Sato Competition, which saw entries from 16 top-tier sato products crafted from local ingredients. The competition featured three categories: Best Traditional Sato, Best Innovative Sato, and People’s Choice Award.
Galathee Sitthichaiwijit from Thalang, Phuket, showcased “White Sato” and “Red Sato,” winning the Silver award for Best Traditional Sato. Inspired by local sato, Galathee perfected his craft through extensive experimentation, ultimately achieving a smooth and flavorful sato. His products gained popularity and recognition at the event.
Galathee’s journey began with organic farming at Rai Na Rak farm, experimenting with sticky rice fermentation. Despite initial challenges, he discovered that freezing maintained the sato’s taste. Encouraged by friends and family, he entered the competition and earned accolades for his dedication.
SAKE WEEK Thailand 2024 aimed to promote and exchange cultural knowledge between sato and sake. The event featured over 40 Japanese sake varieties for tasting.
For enthusiasts, “White Sato” and “Red Sato” will soon be available for purchase. Visitors can learn more and sample the products at Rai Na Rak farm in Thalang, Phuket, along with other organic offerings like chocolate, coffee, and honey. The farm is open Monday to Saturday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Contact via Instagram at rainarak46 for more information. (NNT)
