Authorities have reported that wildfires in Nakhon Nayok province have almost been completely contained, and they expect to extinguish blazes at Khao Laem within a matter of days.
The wildfire, caused by a lightning strike on Khao Cha Phlu on Tuesday (28 Mar), spread to nearby Khao Laem and Khao Nang Dam due to strong winds in the area. Over the past week, officials set up fire barriers to contain the flames and have worked tirelessly to prevent them from spreading to Khao Yai National Park.
Officials noted in a recent report that they have limited the fires on Khao Laem to designated hotspots, saying the most major concerns are inaccessible areas such as cliffs and steep areas.
Helicopters have meanwhile been conducting aerial firefighting operations to help douse the mountain blazes, with fire barriers being erected to keep the flames at bay. They expect that the Khao Laem wildfires will be completely extinguished within a few days. (NNT)
