BANGKOK,18 March 2014 The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) is releasing a number of forest dwelling animals back into their natural habitat to celebrate the most auspicious occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 59th birthday. Prateep Hermpayak, chief of Ban Phachi Wildlife Conservation Area, as well as other agencies and the park’s veterinarians have checked the animals’ health to prepare them to return to their original habitat.

Mr. Prateep explained that “The wild animal release for the fertility of the forest” program, has been launched to select genetically pure wild animal species of Thailand, considered suitable to return to their place of origin. The favored method is to select pure blooded and disease-free examples of a species and release them back into the forest habitat.

The project has been assisted by the Wildlife Conservation Office Huaykhakaeng Uthai Thani province, along with advice from other agencies.

So far there are 14 wild deer, Eld’s deer, and many kinds of birds and peacocks that have been released into the forest, a mixed deciduous forest which is in good condition in terms of its ecosystem and well able to support the return of natural species.
