BANGKOK, Thailand – The Suphalak cat, an ancient Thai breed, has been officially recognized as an international breed by the World Cat Federation (WCF). The announcement was made following the WCF General Assembly 2024 in Germany, where the Trade Association of Registered Cats (ARC) submitted a proposal for the breed’s recognition.

The process of gaining recognition involved gathering historical data, defining breed characteristics, and providing genetic information to establish breed standards. The effort was led by Svetlana Lalovic, a WCF judge specializing in Thai cat breeds, who played a major role in compiling the necessary documentation.

The ARC has expressed gratitude to those who supported the recognition process, including its founder Chayaphon Phucharoenyos, and President Pattamaporn Themeeyawet.

With this recognition, the Suphalak breed joins other internationally recognized cat breeds, further promoting Thailand’s rich cultural heritage in cat breeding. (NNT)
