BUDAPEST – A 5-year-old Thai girl has captivated the global swimming community with her extraordinary talent and speed in the water Dec 13.

Wanya Maisoonpol, affectionately known as “Little Mermaid,” recently attended the World Aquatic Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, with her parents. Her abilities have garnered admiration from renowned figures such as Olympic gold medalist Pernille Blume, who described Wanya’s talent as “unbelievable and extraordinary.”

Swimming Coach James Gibson echoed the sentiment, calling her technique “remarkable” and predicting a bright future for the young swimmer.

Wanya’s journey began at just six months old, guided by her father, Frank Maisoonpol. By 4 years and 1 month, she had already won a medal in the butterfly stroke, a testament to her dedication and natural ability.
