YALA – The city center of Yala province is undergoing an urban facelift in preparation for the upcoming New Year celebrations.
The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) has granted a budget of 500,000 baht to revamp the old quarter of Yala city. Historical buildings near Yala Railway Station have been painted in blue, green, violet, yellow and orange.
The campaign is aimed at livening up Yala city for residents and boost tourism in the province. The SBPAC also expects that the renovation will influence owners of old buildings to conserve the original architecture.
Residents taking part in the project were given free paints, but had to hire painters by themselves. Many homeowners have expressed satisfaction with the results.
