YASOTHON, 8 May 2015 – Yasothon province is holding a jasmine rice products fair while also encouraging people to use good quality rice seeds in farming.
The fair is being held in front of the provincial city hall where Yasothon Governor Prawat Titakaew chaired the opening ceremony of the jasmine rice products fair, and the good quality rice seed campaign today.
The Yasothon agricultural officer Sakol Khunudom stated that nowadays Thai rice exports are expanding at a slower rate due to competition from other countries which have lower production costs. Domestic competition is also causing middlemen to push down prices and buy rice from each producer at a very low price.
The provincial agricultural office is now encouraging farmers to develop new jasmine rice product designs and styles, thereby creating a new marketing channel for jasmine rice.
Mr.Sakol also stated that in an effort to promote jasmine rice products and the use of good quality rice seeds in the 2015 harvest season, the agricultural office has joined hands with every district’s agriculture department in organizing this fair.
The fair includes exhibitions, a variety of booths from the government unit, private sector, organic agricultural cooperatives, the community, the organic Thai Jasmine Rice farmers group, with academic speech sessions, and demonstrations of processing jasmine rice into products, product competitions as well as sales of products made from jasmine rice from every district.
