NONTHABURI, Thailand – A young woman had a close brush with death when a 100-meter-long cable fell and entangled her neck while she was riding her motorcycle in the Mit Pracha Village area, Bang Bua Thong, late night of August 31. The incident caused her to crash violently, leaving her and her vehicle damaged. So far, no responsible party has stepped forward.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 PM on August 31. Ms. Napaporn Jetshala, 24, was riding her gray Yamaha Filano motorcycle into Soi Mit Pracha, Ban Mai Subdistrict, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province. As she was passing Chanrat Dormitory, a long cable suddenly fell from above and wrapped around her neck, causing her to lose control and crash.

Her motorcycle was severely damaged, with scratches and broken parts. Ms. Napaporn suffered injuries to her neck, with a long red mark, as well as bruises on her knees and abrasions on her hands and legs. She sought medical treatment and X-rays at a hospital, where she had to pay for the expenses herself. Attempts to identify the owner of the cable have so far been unsuccessful, but it is known that the cable was newly installed just last month. Ms. Napaporn has filed a report with the Pak Kret Police Station to pursue legal action and seek compensation from the cable company.

The motorcycle then lost balance and crashed. She realized that a cable had wrapped around her neck and body, pulling her off the bike.

Upon returning to the scene, she found that the fallen cable was over 100 meters long. A good Samaritan in the area had tied a plastic bag to the cable as a warning sign to prevent further accidents. Ms. Napaporn attempted to contact the dormitory owner, who agreed to reach out to the company responsible for the cable installation. However, they have yet to make contact. The dormitory owner promised to follow up with the company to rectify the situation and discuss compensation for Ms. Napaporn’s damages.

Ms. Napaporn expressed her shock and disbelief at the incident, noting that she had never experienced anything like this before. She had seen similar accidents on television but never imagined it would happen to her. She questioned how a newly installed cable could fall so easily and emphasized how fortunate she was to have been driving slowly; otherwise, she might have been decapitated. She filed a police report to ensure that the incident is thoroughly investigated, holding those responsible accountable, and to prevent such accidents from happening again. She also seeks compensation for the significant damages to herself and her motorcycle.

Nearby vendor Auntie Tai, 58, who sells grilled pork near the scene, recounted that she heard a loud crash and initially thought it was just a regular motorcycle accident. However, when she saw the cable wrapped around Ms. Napaporn’s neck and dragging the bike, she immediately rushed to help. She carefully pulled the cable to the side of the road, tying a bag to it as a warning sign. Auntie Tai expressed concern that the area could become dangerous at night, especially when her shop is closed, and advised all drivers to exercise caution, as no authorities had yet removed the cable.

Nearby residents quickly came to her aid, helping her get up and move the motorcycle off the road to prevent further accidents and despite the shock, she managed to reach the hospital for treatment.
