BANGKOK, 13 August 2015 – The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives have launched a project to promote agro-tourism in the hope stimulate the economy and distribute income to local areas.
From 2015 – 2017, the project will be piloted in four major tourist cities before expanding to 12 “hidden gem” cities. Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Pitiphong Phuengbun Na Ayutthaya said the project would help add value to agricultural products and increase economic opportunities for agricultural communities.
There are more than 700 agro-tourism sites nationwide. Agro-tourism has generated around 40% of the total income of farmers.
The minister also suggested that the project promote outstanding agricultural products and connect agro-tourism sites, shops, hotels, communities and markets while developing the quality of life of farmers.
