SURAT THANI, 21 August 2011-The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation is speeding the development plan for facilities around Ang Thong Islands National Marine Park in Surat Thani province, hoping to draw more tourists and promote sustainable tourism in this area.
According to Head of the National Marine Park Mr. Damrat Phoprasit, said the new developments to bolster tourism and provide convenience to visitors include building walkways and pavilions just to name a few.
He added that due to the abundance of marine lives, large fishing boats have reportedly been seen competing with smaller vessels for fish and crustacean, killing business for local fishermen.
Their presence has also obstructed the beautiful scenery around the National Park. He urged local people to keep their eyes on the sea and report to the authority if they had seen any large fishing boats. Fishing is also illegal according to the law. Anyone seen fishing in the National Marine Park will be prosecuted.
