BANGKOK, 23 November 2012 – The Department of Public Works and Town and Country Planning has issued a statement for relevant agencies in Bangkok to be wary of safety during upcoming Loy Kratong celebrations.

The statement, consisting of 15 bullet points, emphasizes public participation in preventing accidents and reiterates safety procedures and building codes, with the aim of protecting the public from incidents during Loy Krathong festivities.

The agency has asked the public to refrain from igniting fireworks close to buildings or flammable materials, and to prepare escape routes in the event of a blaze.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has expressed readiness in providing rescue personnel and medical teams for the celebrations. Several major hospitals, including Charoenkrung (เจริญกรุง), Taksin (ตากสิน), and Wachira (วชิระ) have been ordered to set up mobile rescue units to provide medical care for the public during the annual event.
