Five Thai winners on list of Asian Hospital Management Awards 2013

Bangkok – 26 September, 2013: Four Thai hospitals and one eminent Thai physician-cum-businessman scooped up five awards at the gala dinner marking the conclusion of the 12th Asian Hospital Management conference at the Shangri-La Hotel on 13 September, 2013.

The event was attended by a record 880 delegates from 34 countries and 398 organisations. The awards programme, now in its twelfth year, recognises and honours hospitals in Asia that have implemented or enhanced outstanding and innovative projects, programmes, and best practices during the previous year. This year’s awards garnered 298 entries representing 78 hospitals across 13 countries.

The awards are the final event of the Asian Hospital Management conference, which positions itself as Asia’s premier learning conference and expo for healthcare managers, clinicians and leaders. It includes a CEO Forum and Health Leaders Summit, which focus on providing updates on best management practices in the industry.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Suraphon Svetasreni complimented all the Thai award winners for their commitment to raising the standards of the health and wellness sector. “It is exactly this kind of commitment which continues to raise Thailand’s image and attract thousands of visitors to seek medical care here.

“The health and wellness sector is one of our key target niche markets in our 2014 action plan. We hope to see more foreign health and wellness visitors taking advantage of our world-class and constantly improving facilities and services, as clearly exemplified by these awards,” the governor said.

The list of Thai winners by category are:

CATEGORY: Human Resource Development Project

Gold Award: Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital (Thailand) – “Team Up Power Up”.

CATEGORY: Service Improvement for Internal Customers Projec

Excellence Award: Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital (Thailand)-“Smart Pharmaceutical Care”.

CATEGORY: Marketing, PR or Promotional Project

Excellence Award: Bangkok Hospital Phuket (Thailand) – “Be Healthy Fair in Bangkok Hospital- Phuket”.

CATEGORY: Bio Medical Equipment / Facilities Improvement Projec

Excellence Award: Bangkok Hospital Phuket (Thailand) – “One Stop Service for Check Up in the Wellness Center, Bangkok Hospital Phuket”.

HMA 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award

The HMA 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on Dr. Chalerm Harnphanich, well known as a “builder of hospitals” in Thailand. According to the AHMA announcement, Dr. Chalerm is the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Executive Board at the Bangkok Chain Hospital Public Company Limited.

Dr. Chalerm has been active in the Private Hospital Association first as its General Secretary and now as its President for a second term. He, with the other members, restructured TPHA to fit with the new health care environment, opening windows for rural and smaller hospitals. Membership increased from 60 to over 206 hospitals.
