Homemade food, locally made goods and entertainment are featured at a new “open market” in Pong Sub-district every weekend through September.
The “Kin Plern Dern Chim Rim Mabprachan” market opened March 4 at the sub-district office’s public garden with local residents renting low-priced booths to sell home recipes, including some very popular curries and mouth-watering sweets; agricultural products and other handmade goods.
The market attracted a good number of locals and tourists.
Mayor Anucha Piernjai said the market was organized to promote the economy and give residents a chance to earn extra money.
A small stage was set up to feature entertainment put on by local schoolchildren. The local elephant village also brought in some pachyderms to do shows.
The market will run from 6-10 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday through September. Parking is available for up to 1,000 vehicles.
