About 40 employees of Grand Sole Hotel wielded fire extinguishers, gained survival training and learned to handle gas cylinders at the Pattaya hotel’s annual fire drill.
The Sept. 2 drill orchestrated by the Pattaya Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department saw staffers done fire-retardant shirts and simulate extinguishing small fires, including those fanned by unfavorable winds.
Gas cylinders were used in the drills, which required employees to learn to turn off the cooking-gas canisters to prevent explosions. Hotel executives said the fire drills are run every year.
