Maryland, USA / Bangkok, 27 February, 2014 – Ko Lanta, the much-loved Andaman Island in Thailand’s southern province of Krabi was recently named the world’s second best island by USA-based publication International Living magazine.
The popular online magazine picked out and ranked seven islands from all over the world. These were all chosen on the basis that they were places that well-heeled expats could live or visit as tourists and enjoy privacy, peace, and a simpler way of life and where there was still a strong sense of local community.
Of the seven “World’s Best” island’s, Ko Lanta took second place after Roatan island in Honduras. Just behind Koh Lanta in the rankings were Caye Caulker in Belize; the Corn Islands in Nicaragua, Waiheke Island in New Zealand; Langkawi in Malaysia and the Aran Islands in Ireland accordingly. The magazine revealed the results of its online survey in its September 2013 edition.
The accompanying magazine article described Ko Lanta as having ‘wild jungle and uncrowded beaches that make it (among) the world’s most spectacular islands.”
It was Ko Lanta’s pristine state that made it stand out from other strong contenders in the kingdom. “Come to Ko Lanta and you won’t encounter masses of drunken backpackers, see any McDonalds or Pizza Huts,” said the copy. “Make no mistake. This is no Phuket, Phi Phi, or Samui.” It went on, highlighting the reasons why this lovely island is so popular among tourists seeking a holiday spot that is off the beaten path.
The myriad attractions for visitors to the island were highlighted by the online publication, “it’s all about a casual lifestyle: chilling on the beach, trekking in the jungle, dining on world-class cuisine (or cooking your own), and relaxing with friends.”
