From September 2015, passengers travelling on Lufthansa Group airlines such as Lufthansa German Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines and Austrian Airlines flights from Bangkok to Europe can board their flights using Mobile Boarding Pass.
For passengers who prefer the convenience of online or mobile check-in prior to departure, they can now request to have their boarding pass sent to an Internet-enabled mobile phone by email, via SMS, as in-App message when checking-in out of the app. Moreover iPhone users can store their boarding pass within Wallet/Passbook. All they need in order to identify themselves are the booking code or the ticket number and their names.
Other than relevant flight data such as the passenger’s name, flight number and departure time, the mobile boarding pass contains an AZTEC barcode, which allows the passenger to pass through security checkpoints at the airport and proceed straight to the departure gate. At the gate, the mobile boarding pass is then read by a scanner, enabling the passenger to board the aircraft without a printed paper boarding pass. If the gate changes, the mobile boarding pass updates automatically with the new gate information.
If customers have stored their boarding pass within the depot of their app, they also can make use of the new travel assistant which appears on the home screen and shows all relevant flight information, e.g. the status of the flight or a boarding countdown. Besides, the customer is informed with messages when the gate or the departure time changes.
Already more than 17 million Lufthansa Group passengers now use mobile boarding passes, which are already available for almost all flights departing from Germany. The passes are also issued for flights from other Asian airports such as Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
With the convenience of mobile boarding pass, passengers are now able to enjoy more time at home or at the airport without having to queue at check-in counters. Apart from saving time and further efficiency, this effort also contributes to our initiatives of being ‘green’ and environmental friendly by printing less paper.
Lufthansa Group is also one of the first airlines worldwide to make the Passbook functionality available to its customers. And Bangkok is the only station in Southeast Asia that offers the mobile boarding pass option for all Lufthansa Group outbound flights to Europe.
Also for the whole of October, a Lufthansa baggage tag, as a souvenir, will be given to every passenger who boards the flight using mobile boarding pass at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.
