BANGKOK, 31 July 2015 – The Department of Tourism says it will continue its funding for community-level tourism development following the success of last year’s project.

The Department of Tourism has planned to offer financial support to 150 selected communities. Each of them will receive a fund of up to 100,000 baht for improvement of local industries or tourism facilities.

Acting Director-General of the Department Wannasiri Morakul disclosed that the project has proved to be fruitful after its introduction last year. Several programs approved by the department have contributed to upgrades in community tourism and businesses, such as the use of water hyacinth fiber in the fabric production in Lampang and the popular homestay tour programs in Trat.

Local industry and tourism groups which were given funding last year meanwhile said the project not only promoted employment but also created sustainable well-being in their communities.
