National parks in 6 southern provinces collect revenue of over 1.2 bn bt from entrance fee

National Parks from six southern provinces were highly profitable this year, with revenues over 1.2 billion baht scheduled to fund community development, says a DNP official.

Protected Areas Regional Office 5 Director Jirasak Chookhwamdee disclosed that the Protected Areas Regional Office 5 are responsible for 13 marine national parks in six provinces including Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Satun and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The top three most profitable marine national parks include Noppharat Thara Beach and Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay and Similan Islands. The revenues from the 13 marine parks amount to 1,239 million baht, he said.

He went on to say that the collected revenue will be used for the development of local areas and marine national parks, assuring the process is transparent.
