The Pattaya Business & Tourism Association and Central Festival Pattaya Beach have proposed Pattaya City Hall attempt another smartphone application to help tourists.
City spokesman Pinit Maneerat met June 29 with PBTA President Ekasit Ngampichet, Thai Hotels Association Eastern Region President Sanphet Suphabuansathien and Eastern Food & Beverage Association chief Klit Jiramongkol to discuss the outlines of an app with tourism, transportation and shopping information.
The push for an iPhone and Android app is being made by Central Festival, which says Pattaya needs to step up to become a “smart city” full of technological support.
Therefore they proposed a new application that could be the center for all needs regarding tourist assistance, maps, attractions, travel options, hot deals, accommodation and other recommendations. It also would allow people to contact police directly in case of emergency.
It’s not like Pattaya hasn’t tried to join the app generation. At least one city hall attempt has been made to put tourism information at people’s fingertips with zero success.
The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration in November also unveiled a prototype “Smart Pattaya” app to guide tourists to popular area attractions that has not yet seen the light of day.
And the Royal Thai Police last year replaced its failed “Tourist Buddy” app with one called “A Lert U” that forgoes tourist information to just let people call the cops.
