Global professionals and experts in spa management and the health & wellness sector will be gathering in Bangkok for the World Spa & Well-being Convention.

The Thai spa industry has continued to grow at a rate often exceeding 10 % annually. It has become a key component of the Thai tourism and health care industries, receiving international recognition and awards of excellence, and now Thai Spa Association will be holding the World Spa & Well-being Convention during 19th to 21st of September 2012.

The event, organized under the auspices of the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Thailand Exhibition and Convention Bureau, is billed the “only gateway offering numerous opportunities to network and business connections”.

The gathering is expected to give yet another boost to the spa, health and wellness sector, one of the quickest growing niche-market segments of the Thai travel & tourism industry. The spa and wellness industry is also hoped to trigger employment, generating millions of jobs at the grassroots level, especially among women.

Research shows that in 2010 alone, 1.4 million medical tourists visited Thailand, up from 500,000 total in 2001. The average length of stay of medical tourists ranges from a brief three-day visit for a routine check-up to three weeks or more for plastic surgery.

According to Mr. Andrew Jacka, President of Thai Spa Association, “The event is designed to enhance the image of Thailand in the world spa market, upgrade quality standards and innovation of services and showcase the latest products, technology and methods to highly targeted key decision makers”.
