BANGKOK, 22 August 2011 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has expressed confidence that a total of 1.4 million Chinese tourists will come to Thailand throughout this year, thanks to the economic recovery.
Director of the TAT Beijing Office Ponganan Sanpanich pointed out that the number of Chinese nationals traveling to Thailand this year was projected to reach 1.4 million with about 30 percent of them belonging to the high-quality group. The increase from last year’s number is attributable to improvements in the economy.
During the first seven months of this year, more than 979,000 Chinese visitors have been seen, growing by 63.65 percent, while the number is still rising at present.
From the fourth quarter of this year until next year, Mr Ponganan said the Beijing Office would continually launch tour packages targeting local residents with high purchasing power, such as golfers and couples looking for places to get married. Moreover, prestigious destinations and services within the Kingdom will be promoted in a bid to push up the average spending among Chinese tourists of 3,000 THB per day per head to 4,000 THB.
Meanwhile, the TAT will also vigorously publicize Thailand’s cultural events and important activities, which range from the Songkran and Loy Krathong Festivals to the celebration of His Majesty the King’s 84th birthday anniversary.
