BANGKOK, May 20 — The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has instructed its overseas offices to provide understanding of the ongoing situation in the country among tourists and tour operators after martial law was imposed nationwide before dawn today.
Sugree Sithivanich, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, said that the 27 TAT overseas offices have been assigned to explain and clarify the current situation in Thailand as well as a purview of martial law enforcement which does not affect the way of living.
The overall transportation system and businesses run as usual, he said, adding that there is no curfew.
Martial law is intended to restore peace and order in the country, he said.

In a related development, the national carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) advised its passengers to go to Suvarnabhumi airport at least three hours before departure time and to use internet check-in services for their convenience and to ensure that they do not miss their flights.
It said that after martial law was announced, many roads were closed which could disrupt the flow of traffic.
