BANGKOK, 3 June 2015 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has revealed a plan to hire celebrities to promote Thai silk garments and tourism to the northeastern region.

TAT Northeastern Region Office Director Somrudee Charnchai said that at the initial stage, veteran actress Sinjai Plengpanich will be approached to appear in TAT advertisements on silk garments to be covered by a fashion magazine. She expected the move would help spark public interest in silk garments and bring greater income to the northeastern region which is an important production base of silk.

At present, the Northeast has the least income ratio compared to other regions of the Kingdom.

Somrudee said that apart from silk apparel, the magazine would display the sites of silk production and hand-weaving techniques of villagers. It will interview celebrities about their preference for silk garments.
