Bangkok, July 4, 2013: The 3rd Short Film Festival 2013 will be held at Siam Paragon Cineplex between September 21- 22. It is being supported by “The Style by Toyota” which will host a number of activities and provide the top award, a brand new Toyota car, an “All New VIOS,” to the winner.
Designed to promote Thailand as an epicenter for filmmaking, the 9FilmFest champions emerging creative talent and provides an outlet for aspiring and established filmmakers worldwide to help them fulfill their dreams and spawn a new generation of creative professionals.
Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Suraphon Svetasreni said, “TAT is providing financial support to this year’s festival because we want to provide a forum for filmmakers to showcase their work, which will encompass a wide range of subject matters centering on Thai life and the country’s many tourist attractions. The tourism industry has always been a visual industry. We think that short films give us the ideal medium to present Thailand in a way that will register with today’s travelers who seek visual stimulation.”
The 1st 9FilmFest was held in 2011 and Best Film was the Japanese Entry – Numberman Theory, directed by Eiji Shimada. The 2nd Amazing Thailand 9FlimFest Best Film was Video Call directed by Wattanapong Wongwan winning a prize of 600,000 THB.
Each year, 9FilmFest has a signature item, 9SI (or theme) that must be included in the films. In 2011, 9SI was the number “9” while in 2012 “Heart” was its 9SI. This year’s signature theme is a waterway, which means a moving body of water, such as a river, a stream or a canal.
Prominent personalities in the film industry are invited to be a part of the jury. This year’s jury includes Ananda Everingham (Actor), Tannia Tanwarin Sukkhapisit (Director), Kong Rithdee (Film Critic), Prachya Pinkaew (Director), Areeya Xumsai (Director), Yuthana Boonorm (Entertainment), Adam Yukol (Director), and John Anderson (USA, Film Critic).
