Tourism Authority organizes long-distance bike race along Mekong River

BANGKOK – The Tourism and Sports Ministry is organizing a long-distance bike race along Mekong River as part of a ”Mekong cyclists” tournament.

Tourism and Sports Minister Korbkarn Wattanawarangkun said winners of the long-distance bike race scheduled from October 30 until November 3 will be awarded cups from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. 

The bike race will last three days, pass four provinces along Mekong River, namely Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakorn Panom and Mukdaharn, and cover a total distance of 246 kilometers.

Over 400 cyclists, both Thai and foreign, have applied for the match held under approval from the Thai Cycling Association which has provided 27 referees to observe the rules of the Union Cycliste Internationale.

The first stage of the game, entitled “Starting the Legend of the Mekong River Basin”, goes between Nong Khai and Beung Kan provinces. The second stage, called “King of the River”, goes between Nakorn Panom and Mukdaharn provinces. And the final stage goes between Chalerm Prakiart park and Poo Manorom park in Mukdaharn province.
