NAN, Nov 14 – Winter tourism in Thailand’s northern province of Nan is doing well this year in terms of visitors and bookings, as the rise in room reservations foretells rising income for local businesses.
And the flow of visitors is expected to remain high into the beginning of next year, according to Pattara-anong Na Chiang Mai, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in three provinces–Phrae, Nan and Uttaradit.
Located somewhat off the beaten track, the culturally rich northern province is especially attractive to tourists who love nature and culture. And travelling to Nan is easier with a 60-seat flight to serve tourists.
Ms Pattara-anong said she expects more than 300,000 tourist arrivals in Nan, mostly Thais wanting to escape the busy pace of Bangkok and other cities.
That’s good news for the local business community, she said. At least, Bt700 million, about a 10 per cent increase from the same period last year, is expected to move into circulation.
