SONGKHLA, 7 June 2015 – Local residents, business operators and tourists have participated in a beach clean-up in Singhanakhon District in Songkhla Province.
The campaign took place at the beach of Mueang Muang Ngam Municipality. Organizers included the Marine Coastal Resources Center 4, Mueang Muang Ngam Municipality and CEC International, Ltd (Thailand Branch).
The project is expected to raise awareness of coastal environment and garbage problems among local people, business operators and tourists. The activities consisted of the release of nine sea turtles, 500,000 young fish and two million baby crabs in the sea and the collection of garbage by volunteer divers.
Local marine environmentalists and experts were invited to teach participants how to build artificial fish habitats and reefs. An exhibition was also held to educate visitors on environmental conservation.
