Events

The Pattaya Dog Show Festival 2011 will take place from March 18-21 at the Eastern National Sports Indoor Athletic Center on Soi Chaiyapruek 2 in South Pattaya.  There will be a variety of dog contests taking place such as best talent, beauty, and a dog fashion show and it is estimated that more than 900 dogs of many different breeds will participate in the event.  There will also be many dog related activities plus services and product booths on site to keep all pet lovers happy.  For more information go to www.bangkok.dog.com.

The Pattaya International Music Festival 2011 will take place from March 18-20.  Well-known Thai and Asian pop artists including Potato, Da Endofin, Rain, Ice Saranyu and Aof Pongsak will headline the concert, which plays out on stages at Bali Hai Pier, Walking Street, the Hard Rock Hotel and at Beach Road Soi 4.  In addition to the tunes, the festival will feature booths selling food and other knick-knacks, music lessons and chances for fans to meet their idols.  A full schedule of the 3 day event is on page 28 of this week’s Pattaya Mail.

New Age musician and internationally renowned Grammy award winning artist Kitaro will be entertaining fans at the Silverlake Vineyard in Pattaya in a one off concert on March 26, beginning at 4.30 p.m.  Support acts include Bruce Gaston and the FongNam Band, Hucky Eichelmann, and World Guitar.  Tickets cost 2,500 baht for all seats and are available at www.thaiticketmajor.com or by calling 02 262 3456.

Clubs and Associations

The next meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, March 20.  Everyone is warmly welcome.  The guest speaker will be Dr. Ganyanan Punturat M.D., an Opthamologist from Phayathai Sriracha Hospital.  He will be discussing cataracts and their treatment. There will also be a nurse from the hospital available giving free blood pressure checks.  The Club meets every Sunday morning at the Tavern by the Sea Restaurant located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort).  The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9 to 11 a.m.  Each week the PCEC usually has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting.  The program is followed by the ever lively and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya.  A full report appears each week in Pattaya Mail.  For more information about the Sunday meeting and the numerous other weekday activities of the PCEC, see the Club’s website at www.pattayacityexpatsclub.com and learn more about the many and varied activities of the Club.

For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone.  The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community.  English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone.  All calls will be handled on an anonymous basis and are free of charge.  Please call (02) 713-6791 (24hrs a day, 7 days a week).
