Thailand’s motorbike clubs and riders are invited to take part in the Kwai Challenge 2012 on Sunday, November 11 in aid of the 2012 Poppy Appeal, the Thai Burma Railway Centre, and the Thai Veterans Hospital in Bangkok.  An organised motorcycle ride will start from Three Pagodas Pass and end at the bridge over the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi town (a shorter option will also be available).  The cost to take part is 1000 baht and includes a t-shirt and poppy lapel badge plus refreshments and snacks on the day.  To register, call Lyndsey Rowe on 082 201 2314 or email: [email protected].

The 2012 Ploenchit Fair will be held at Bangkok International School on Saturday, November 24 from 10.00am – 9.00pm.  This charity fundraising event is a family fun day, based on an English fairground, as well as offering all day international food and beverage and stage entertainment.  Donations are currently being sought for goods or promotional materials to be used in the central pool for the over 150+ stalls.  All donations will be receipted and all donors listed in our programme.  This year will mark 55 years of assistance given to Thai charities so if you have any items to donate, please email [email protected] or call 02 204 1587.

Clubs and Associations

The next Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) meeting will be on Sunday, Nov. 4.  Everyone is warmly welcome.  The speaker will be John Wayne Ryan, Director of Training and Research for the International Truth Verification Technologies Institute of Perth, Western Australia. He will describe how law enforcement bodies using the latest technology developed by the Institute can more reliably detect when a person is being deceptive in their answers.  The Club meets every Sunday morning at the Tavern by the Sea restaurant located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort).  The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9 to 11 a.m.

For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone.  The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community.  English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone.  All calls will be handled on an anonymous basis and are free of charge.  Please call (02) 713-6791 (24hrs a day, 7 days a week).

The 1st Pattaya Northern Soul Weekend – Soul a Go-Go, is taking place at Pattaya’s main Hip-Hop venue, the famous Flexx Club (just behind McDonalds off Walking Street), over the 3 days of Fri 9th, Sat 10th and Sunday 11th November.  Music from 8pm til 3am on Fri/Sat and Sunday’s session 5pm till 1am and features a star cast of international DJs.  A special bar rate of 80THB for all bottled beer will be in place, with an entrance fee of only 300THB per session.  Proceeds from the event will be used to support the Hand to Hand Foundation for children at risk.  For more information call 088 528 1371.
