With the Australian Chamber (AustCham) being the organizers, and the
British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT) and the American Chamber
(AmCham) being the guests, it was a packed venue for the networking around
the 4th floor swimming pool at the Holiday Inn. And what really swelled the
numbers were the golfers from the Women With a Mission’s charity golf
tournament who were also invited.
The three chambers were well represented, with the Australians having the
greatest presence. President John Anderson and AustCham Executive Director
Mark Carroll were early attendees, helping Paul Wilkinson, the Eastern
Seaboard GM for JVK International Movers, one of the sponsors of the
networking. Another Aussie was Scott Finsten, the Harbor Master at Ocean
Marina.
One of the sponsors was Capital TV, with Aussie presenter Raine Grady there
with husband Les Nyerges and their two ‘giant’ children enjoying the
evening. Les had the unfortunate experience of being interviewed on PM TV by
Paul Strachan and Dr. Iain for the “Doc and Jock” show. However, he did well
enough to get a kiss from his wife for the job well done!
Two lovely ladies who captured the imagination of the (should I say
‘randy’?) chaps were Hanna Nontanam and Ralawan Rattanapornmaneechai from
Harry & Sons, property consultants, but who confusingly were also
representing a restaurant in Bangkok on Silom Road.
One local group well represented was the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya with Neil
Maniquiz, Janya and two ladies from the Russian department Jain and Alisha.
The Women With a Mission, Rosanne Diamente, Kylie Grimmer and Bronwyn Carey
were delighted with the numbers who entered their golf tournament, 125
according to Rosanne. Amongst the golfers who also attended the networking
night were Automotive Focus Group (AFG) members George Strampp, Mike
Diamente, Armin Walter and Shaun Burke. The Women With a Mission is
supporting 400 disadvantaged children in Mae Sot plus some handicapped
children in the Chonburi area.
Members of the BCCT included the charming Deputy Director Jyoti
Sachavirawong and past president Graham MacDonald, Kevin Fisher and Andy
Hall (CEA), the ‘dog man’ Joe Cox, running the Defense International
Security Services, John Hamilton (Waste Management Siam) and Simon Matthews
(Manpower) in the floral shirt. Bangkok residents who made the trip down
included Colin Hastings from the Big Chilli magazine. Craig Muldoon and
David Strachan from PFS International also made the trip worthwhile with
some serious networking.
Just “hopping across the fence” was David Cumming, the GM of the Holiday
Inn’s neighbors, the Amari Orchid Pattaya, bringing with him Pimteera
Rattanakupt from their sales department.
One regular, but with a new business card, was Tony Hanscomb, the Creative
Director of the Cartoon Network’s Amazone water park, a project in Pattaya
that my children (and countless other thousands) are eagerly awaiting its
opening.
The next joint chamber networking will be on November 16.
