The Sawang Rojthummasathan Foundation donated rice and dried food to
3,999 Sattahip-area residents as part of the organization’s annual ceremony
to make merit for those who died without family members to bury them.
Mayor Narong Bunbancherdsri led the Aug. 16 “Thingkrajad” ceremony, which
draws its origins from China. Doing good deeds for the underprivileged and
making merit for souls with no living relatives clears one’s karma, he said.
About 4,000 people turned out for the donations of rice and food, an
increase from previous years. Each recipient was asked to making merit for
the unfortunate dead.
