Pattaya will award more than 100,000 baht in prizes to creators of the most beautiful and creative flower arrangements in the city’s annual Loy Krathong contest Nov. 17.

Deputy Mayor Wattana Chantanawaranon and his committee announce 100,000 baht in prizes is up for grabs to creators of the most beautiful and creative flower arrangements in the city’s annual Loy Krathong contest Nov. 17.

Deputy Mayor Wattana Chantanawaranon and Rattanachai Sutidechanai, chairman of the city council’s Tourism and Sports Committee, met Oct. 15 to finalize details of the contest held in conjunction with Suthammachart Temple.
The contest, which begins at 6 p.m. at Lan Po Park in Naklua, will also feature performances by Pattaya students and a country music performance from Ekachai Sriwichai and Karaket R-SIAM.
The krathong contest will award cash prizes for beauty and creativity, with the beauty category split into divisions for primary school students, high school students and the general public. The creative category will have just one public bracket.
All the krathongs must be made with natural materials - no plastic or Styrofoam - and winners will receive prizes ranging from 2,000-10,000 baht.
“Pattaya wants to preserve this beautiful tradition of Loy Krathong,” Wattana said. “This contest is to make residents aware of the importance of environmental maintenance, including promoting creativity and tourism.”
