Brendan Daly strikes the keg for the
first beer cheered on by Ken Whitty (left) and Fray Kanpicha.
Late last month not only the German community but also people
of many nationalities gathered at the Amari Orchid Pattaya to celebrate the fine
art of beer guzzling and partaking in the most scrumptious Bavarian cuisine this
side of the Rheine.
Aussie born, sometime Bavarian general manager, Brendan Daly, along with Irish
Bavarian Ken Whitty in his lederhosen together with his charming Frau Kanpicha
looking as pretty as ever in her exquisite ‘drindl’ welcomed the enthusiastic
Pattaya community to a night of oom-pah-pah and clinking beer glasses under the
stars, along with gorging on a large selection of German pork knuckles, sausages
and sauerkraut, carefully prepared under the watchful eye of the hotel’s
internationally trained chefs.
Brendan Daly in true Bavarian tradition tapped the first keg of Paulaner beer to
the loud cry of “O’zapft is!” declaring open a night of fun and games.
As in any decent Oktoberfest, the evening’s fun included traditional games such
as the beer drinking contest, nail hammering into a wooden plank and the log
sawing contest.
Throughout the night ‘Die Bayrische’ band got up to their usual antics of
singing German folk songs and playing silly games, much to the enjoyment of the
party goers.
It was a good night for all and undoubtedly they will all line up again for next
year’s Amari Oktoberfest!
Their beer krugs charged to the
brim, Brendan, Ken and Panpicha cry “Prost”.
I’m a cross cut saw, and drag me
across yo’ log, babe, I’ll cut yo’ wood so easy, you can’t help say “hot dog”.
‘Bayern, des samma mir’ - Die
Bayrische boys sing up a storm.
Winner of the beer drinking contest
earned an original Paulaner one litre beer mug.
Bang! Bang! Maxwell’s silver hammer
came down upon its head.
Paulaner beer flowed like the Blue
Danube through Europe.
Traditional suckling pig whetted
everyone’s appetite.
Happiness is friendship and
‘gemuetlichkeit’ at the Oktoberfest. Prost!
