Area boat captains were given lessons in actual seamanship from
a professional maritime school in Bangkok as the first Marine Safety
Training Course opened in Pattaya.
Organized by the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration
(DASTA), Marine Office Region 6 and Pattaya City Hall, the Dec. 25
workshop saw over 50 captains and crewmen listen to nautical instructors
from the Chemstar Nautical School in Bangkok.
The course emphasized security awareness and the possible dangers that
may occur in the sea so that the seafarers will operate as safe as
possible.
Thaweepong Wichaidit, manager for DASTA’s Pattaya Special and Adjacent
Areas Office, said the seminar was organized following a string of
deadly marine accidents that left 11 tourists dead and dozens injured in
2013.
