Pattaya Mail celebrates with 3rd anniversary party

President Sophin Thepjug with the delegation from the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association brings birthday flowers to Pattaya Mail.

A little over 3 years ago, the ever expanding Pattaya had an unfulfilled need. With its growing expat community and burgeoning tourist industry, the time had come for someone to step forward and become the voice of the people.
In the beginning of July 1993, the first issue of Pattaya Mail hit the newsstands and became the first English language newspaper on the Eastern Seaboard. Unlike the other publications in town, which all serve a useful purpose in their own right, Pattaya Mail didn’t want to be just another tourist oriented book of advertisements. Instead, Pattaya Mail sought to be a true newspaper; one that would print actual news, sports, and features within its pages.

H.E. Rangjit Gupta Indian Ambassador to Thailand with his wife were guests of honour at the reception.

During the past three years, Pattaya Mail has grown to be an integral part of society by sticking to its principles. Still in its infancy, Pattaya Mail looks forward to many more years of public service.
On Sunday night, October 6, 1996, Pattaya Mail celebrated three years of success with its third anniversary party at the Grand Sole Hotel. A veritable who’s who in Pattaya turned out for the festive occasion full of good food, congratulatory speeches, and award presentations, along with good fun and dance.

The list of dignitaries included; Santsak Ngarmpiches, owner of the Grand Sole Hotel, whose generous sponsorship made the party possible, Pattaya Mayor Pairat Suthithamrongsawat, Master of Ceremonies Chanyudh Hengtrakul, Miss Thailand World Sirinya Winsiri, Mr. Thailand World Derek Sirisamphan, and of course Chief Editor and Founder of Pattaya Mail Pratheep Malhotra.
After the food was finished and the speeches done, certain people who have distinguished themselves for the services they have provided to the community in Pattaya were presented with deserving awards.

The first award of the evening went to Police Lt. Col. Somsak Wannawak, former Chief Inspector of the Tourist Police (picture 1). He was awarded for his outstanding human relations, for not only has Colonel Somsak fulfilled his duties as a police officer, but gained the love and respect of his subordinates and the public in general.
Mrs. Pranee Maneesarn, Director of Pattaya School #3 (picture 2), was awarded for her work in education. She was praised for her innovation and her upgrading of educational standards.
Acharn Aurora Sribuaphan (picture 3) was lauded for her work at the Redemptorist Center and School for the Blind. In mythology, Aurora is the goddess of the dawn and the bringer of the first light of morning. We can think of no more suitable name for this woman who has made light dawn in many lives which otherwise would have been doomed to darkness.
Alios X. Fassbind, or “Mr. Pattaya”, (picture 4, accepted by Jonathan Wilson) was awarded for his being instrumental in bringing major world events and conventions to Pattaya. He is also deeply involved in community projects. It was through his influence that a hospital wing was built and equipped at the Home for Senior Citizens in Banglamung.

Local reporters enjoy the party.

Newsman Boonleua Chartree (picture 5) was awarded “Outstanding Journalist” for being a model of ethical and incisive journalism.
The awards ceremony ended with kudos for Sutham Phantusak (picture 6, accepted by Eddie Buddhani) for his outstanding contributions to the tourist industry in Pattaya.
Perhaps further awards for patience should have been given to Miss Thailand World Sirinya Winsiri (picture 7), and Mr. Thailand World Derek Sirisamphan (picture 8) for their tireless attention to the many requests made on them. They posed for literally hundreds of pictures as most everyone at the party wanted the honor of being seen with these two attractive celebrities. Both gave thank you speeches in flawless English.

Once the awards ceremony was finished, the happy revelers were entertained by a group of dancers from India, then were able to dance themselves while being serenaded by spirited musicians.
Pattaya Mail wishes to thank everyone who made the party the success it was. “The Mail” looks forward to many more anniversary celebrations in the years to come.
