Pattaya Festival
2000 Pattaya Festival 2000, the 19th annual event, began with a magnificent parade on Friday, April 14th. Literally thousands of people took part in the parade, many dressed in traditional costumes, and along with the 21 floats entered, turned Beach Road into a carnival for the ages. Pictured above is the winning float from Nong Nooch Village aptly titled “Songkran Extravaganza”. The float won a large cash prize and the coveted HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Trophy. Throughout the week-long festival, Beach Road was lined with booths, exhibits and stages, offering a glimpse into Thai culture and tradition. Then, as the festival drew to a close, the streets were again turned into rivers and nary a soul remained dry as the “Water Festival” was once again celebrated with gusto on April 19th. More on the Water Festival next week. |
