St Andrews supports
local schools
St. Andrews International School has generously donated
a computer to the Education Department as a part of their desire to be
actively supporting the local community.
St
Andrews School donated a computer to help education in Rayong Province.

the process of upgrading their computer system to increase the services
they provide to all schools in their district. Recently Mr. Bob Kennett,
the managing director of St. Andrews International Schools in Thailand,
presented a new Pentium III, 550mhz computer to Khun Siribun, the
provincial education officer for Rayong and Khun Kritsapong Trakunratta
Nanont the provincial Education Officer for Ban Chang. The new computer
will be used to develop a local area network system that will benefit all
schools in the Rayong Province.
St. Andrews International School looks forward to
supporting many other local community and charity events throughout the
year.
ISR students investigate
local environment
Following their participation in the ‘Clean Up The
World’ event last month, ISR Year 4 students visited Pattaya recently in
order to investigate local environmental issues as part of their studies in
geography.
Year
4 students check their location on their recent Geography field trip in
Pattaya
The party of 30 explored the Beach Road area where they
discovered that much was being done to provide a safe and clean environment;
the display of reef protection advice along with clearly marked swimming and
jet-ski zones were thought to be contributory factors, as were the many
litter bins and the fact that people were actively involved in cleaning up.
Less promising, however, were wires left hanging over the pavement and
evidence of some rubbish in the sea. Overall, the young geographers were
pleasantly surprised by what they had found whilst recognising that there
was room for further improvement!
The trip was followed up by a lively classroom discussion
during which some interesting and contrasting views were aired. Noel Haung
Thong remarked that he hadn’t been into Pattaya for a long time, and felt
that the Beach Road had been tidier in the past, while fellow pupil Sophie
Dawson described the area as ‘ nice and clean’. Sophie did, however,
have certain reservations and was particularly concerned, along with the
some of her classmates, about scraps of food left lying around. It was felt
that this could encourage stray dogs, cats and even rats.
The students decided that this situation could be
improved by the provision of attractive litter bins, maybe even bins that
walked and talked! A hi-tech idea that would certainly take the beachfront
area well into the twenty-first century...and beyond!
ISE holds third

students who obtain four special traits: Scholarship, Leadership, Service

honor and the students seized the moment with diligence and appreciation.
