Swinburne University of Technology establishes partnership with Cisco System Inc.
Swinburne University of Technology, Australia has established a partnership with Cisco System, Inc. in re-structuring the university’s new network
system. This resultant network system ensures Swinburne has the IT infrastructure in place as one of the leading universities of technology in the Asia Pacific region.
Swinburne University of
Technology
The development of Swinburne University and Cisco System, Inc. partnership is based on the development of a Gigabit backbone (1000 Mbps) with 10/100 Mbps
to the PC desktop. Swinburne will also install wireless technologies that operate at equally high speeds and the integration of data, voice & video (AVVID) over the new
network with 10,000 AVVID ready ports networking access to its staff and students. This will dramatically enhance learning productivity, placing the institute on the
cutting-edge of the technology revolution. In fact, the new network will also link all of Swinburne’s campuses around Asia Pacific with fiber optic technology.
The network system makes Swinburne’s network the most sophisticated project for Cisco in Asia Pacific in 2000 and the third most significant globally.
“Swinburne’s heritage has been in the technology area and we have always been active adopters of leading-edge technologies ourselves,” said Stephen
Murby, vice-president Swinburne University of Technology.

“It was interesting to see students working with others from different year groups for a change,” commented Mr. Sullivan, head of secondary, who helped
with the assessment.
The winning team headed off to Rayong for a night’s bowling with Mr. Batty. A fun morning all round.
St Andrews children visit the Tiger Zoo
The children from the Reception and Kindergarten classes at St Andrews International School recently visited the Sri Racha Tiger Zoo as a part of their study
on animals this term.
Oh my gosh! He’s eaten my
lunch!
The children first enjoyed a circus performance, which included many different animals including tigers, monkeys, elephants and a bear.
The highlight of the trip was definitely the opportunity to pat and feed a baby tiger. Having this close experience with a tiger, the children were amazed at
the size of his paws and his soft fur.
Look at my new friend
Whilst at the zoo the children were also able to see tigers as un-aggressive animals living together harmoniously with other animals including pigs, dogs and
monkeys.
At the zoo the children had the opportunity to see crocodile eggs that were being incubated and then felt and touched a live baby crocodile. Many of the
children were surprised at the texture of the crocodile’s skin.
The staff and children from St Andrews International School would like to thank the Sri Racha Tiger Zoo for their help on the day, especially Khun Da. The
children rated the trip as a roaring success.
