Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Suwit Khunkitti opened the
“36th National Scout Council Conference” on September 7 at the
Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel. The conference agenda included advising on
current policy and continuing plans for this year’s coming activities.
Scouts
were recognized for meritorious achievements.
Also attending the scouting conference was the deputy
minister of education Mr. Jamlong Krutkuntode and the educational director
preparing for the World Scouting Jamboree, Mr. Sutti Polsawat, along with
300 members of the national scouting council.
An awards ceremony was held prior to the start of the
conference honoring scouting units for different activities conducted
during the annual Scout Day last July, held to celebrate the Scout’s
90th Anniversary.
Individual scouts were recognized for meritorious
achievement, as were supporters from area communities involved with
scouting activities.
Following the conference the scout council members
traveled to Sattahip to tour the complex where the “20th World Scouting
Jamboree” will be held beginning December 28, 2002 and ending on January
8, 2003.
Preparations started three years ago to support 30,000
scouts (14-17 years old) from 150 countries who are expected to attend the
Jamboree.
