Welcoming the Year of the Goat
at St Andrews International School
The Chinese New Year Festival saw the children of St.
Andrews International School join the celebrations with a wide variety of
activities talking place in Key stages One, Two and Three.
The
year 2 girls are all smiles to celebrate the “Year of the Goat”.
The younger children practised writing the year of their
birth in Chinese calligraphy, made Chinese lanterns and dragons, and learnt
how to make the “lucky red envelopes”. All this beautiful artwork made
for a very bright and colourful display in the Key Stage One Building.
Students in Key Stages Two and Three also had an
interesting time learning about the Chinese New Year and their activities
ranged through the Maths, Humanities and Art Curriculum.
Banners displaying New Year greetings were made by the
students and are currently decorating classrooms to wish everyone a Happy
and Prosperous New Year in 2003, “The New Year Of The Goat”.

of the Ban Nernplubwan School.
The
YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya, Pattaya Tourist Police, Pattaya Sports Club and the
Pattaya Mail donated 21,000 baht worth of much needed sporting equipment and
sport uniforms to the students of the Ban Nernplubwan School.
Led by YWCA president Nittaya Patimasongkroh, the
donation was aimed at promoting youth sports in the city and emphasized the
importance of healthy activities. Equipment donated included volleyballs,
takraw balls, bats and balls, footballs and 24 sporting uniforms. The
assistant school director, Samrerng Monwan, graciously received the items on
March 12.
YWCA Pattaya board of directors member, Premruedee
Jittiwutthikarn spoke for all of the organizations that contributed to the
donation by saying, “Sports and exercise are important in promoting good
physical and mental health. We want to provide our children with the
opportunity and equipment to develop an interest in these activities and
improve their skills in a variety of sports so that their spare time can be
devoted to productive endeavors so that they are less vulnerable to darker
influences.
“Our endorsement of sports will help achieve those goals. Hopefully the
students will represent their school, their community and maybe the country
in sporting events as part of the national team. I hope that they will be
able to thank their benefactors when they reach that level,” Premruedee
added.
Old, dingy wall now looks beautiful, thanks to Banglamung students redecoration efforts
Suchada Tupchai
Students of Banglamung School recently got a treat. For
once they were encouraged to draw and paint on the walls. Not graffiti, but
unique and creative pictures touting a clean environment and the area’s
attractive scenery were the subject of the children’s artwork.
The
students braved the heat to paint the wall.
The
students were obviously enjoying themselves.
The
artwork is actually very good - perhaps Banglamung School has a top-notch
art department.
Ingo Rไuber, President of Rotary Taksin-Pattaya
2002-2003 and Peter Thorand, past president of Rotary Taksin-Pattaya and
Taksin-Pattaya Rotarian Erwin Rohner, a Swiss man, and his wife Susi
organized the project in conjunction with more than 20 teachers and students
from the Interact Club of Banglamung School to draw the pictures on the wall
on Soi Yen Sabai, Pratamnak Road in South Pattaya.
Peter Thorand said, “The purpose of this activity is to
preserve the environment and keep Pattaya City clean. We want to discourage
youngsters from littering and teach them good habits about proper garbage
disposal. The painting activity was fun and creative, but also
educational.”
Braving the hot weather everyone who participated enjoyed themselves. The
students drew some very imaginative paintings on the school’s walls that
portrayed Pattaya’s scenic beauty, city scenes, undersea marine life and
lovely beaches.
