Kingdom of Thailand celebrates Coronation Day

Monday, May 5 marks the 53rd anniversary of the Coronation of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. The day is celebrated as a national holiday, and all government offices and commercial banks will observe the day (close).

Each year on the 5th of May, the Kingdom of Thailand commemorates the day when, in 1950, the Coronation Ceremony was held for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, the 9th in the Chakri Dynasty (Rama IX).

UK Club of Pattaya drinks for charity

The UK Club of Pattaya raised over 50,000 baht for the Camillian Social Center in Rayong during a sponsored pub crawl last week. Around 20 avid ‘crawlers’ braved the wilds of Soi 7 and South Pattaya for the club’s charity project.

Naturally mummified monk honored in annual ceremonies at Pong Temple

Residents from the sub-district of Pong, near the Mabprachan reservoir, on April 18 paid their respects Prakru Suttikijjartorn (Luang Poh Chom Gosro), former Pong Temple abbot, in a traditional ceremony of changing the deceased monk’s robes. The abbot passed away seven years ago but his body remains naturally mummified at the Potongdee Pruetthararm Temple (Wat Pong).

Eastern Seaboard Environmental Complex (ESBEC), represented by John L. Hamilton, general manager, recently received a certificate of appreciation from the Ministry of Interior’s deputy, Pracha Maleenont, on the occasion of its donation to support provincial projects as part of the "Thai’s together for social order and drug prevention" aimed at promoting social unity, Thai traditional values and help fight drug abuse.
