Jesters approaching another spectacular Children’s Fair at Diana Driving Range
Mike Franklin
We are close approaching this year’s 2005 Jesters
Children’s Fair and Family Day to be held Sunday, 11th September from 10
a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Diana Garden Resort & Driving Range, North
Pattaya. It has always been a day of fun-filled delight, while this year’s
fair will be bigger and better than ever, showcasing more block buster
entertainment and many new and exciting events for the whole family to
enjoy.
Mickey
Monkey couldn’t resist having a go on Woody’s Harley.
The past six Jesters Children’s Fairs were huge
successes, and this will be the fourth consecutive year at Diana Driving
Range. Once again, the Diana Group is generously hosting the fair by making
available the entire Diana Driving Range facility to the many fairgoers we
expect to see at this action packed fun event.
The fair activities include plenty of new and exciting
games and prizes for the kids. Many challenging kids games will be
introduced at this year’s fair and numerous schools will participate by
providing children’s entertainment, including arts and crafts and face
painting. More about that in a couple of weeks when Karyn Walker will be
giving a detailed rundown.

In addition, there will be live bands, famous
entertainers, and a well known clown, with other clowns distributing
brightly colored balloons. The clown features on the 2005 event shirt, soon
to be on sale, with Woody modeling first off the line on his fantastic
Harley Davidson. The ever-popular climbing wall will be there, rides with
the lovely Horseshoe Point ponies and a superb variety of your favorite
Thai, Eastern and Western foods.
The fair will also have unique handicraft vendors from
throughout Southeast Asia displaying and selling their wares.
Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital’s ambulance unit will be on station all day to
take care of any mishaps, and the duty nurse will be available for free
blood pressure checks.

Let’s not forget the Children’s Raffle with loads of
great prizes sponsored by Pattaya Sports Club and generous individuals.
Prizes this year include color TVs and DVD players, a mountain bike,
amplifier speaker system, JVC VCD/MP3/CD-RW/RC player, color
printer/copier/scanner, remote-control racing car, wireless high band
microphone system, dome tent, rubber dinghy, telescope & tripod, Casio
keyboard, a quality crash helmet and more. And introducing Mickey Monkey who
couldn’t resist having a go on Woody’s Harley, and Percy Panda who
desperately needed a cool bamboo juice.
After the Children’s Raffle Draw comes the
action-packed showstopper: the special Kids Tug ‘O’ War, and more live
music. So, lots of reasons for the children and the family to be there.
All Children’s Fair proceeds go to the 2005 Jesters
‘Care for Kids’ charities helping underprivileged children in the area,
some of whom will be there to enjoy the fair with us. This year, due to the
year on year success of the Jesters Charity Drives, we have even more
beneficiaries. They are the Fountain of Life Center, Pattaya Redemptorist
School for the Blind, the Eastern Child Welfare and Protection Institute at
Huay Pong, Rayong & Chonburi Shelters, Happiness Camps, the ‘Next
Step’ Program taking Khun Em to University, Baan Sai Jai, Khao Bai Siri
Schools, Rayong Training Center and Thap Lamu and Sanga Ou Schools in the
South of Thailand.
Show your support for the Jesters Children’s Fair &
Family Day by displaying the bumper sticker shown on this page. Copies of
the bumper sticker, and color poster featured in Pattaya Mail last
week, are available at the Pattaya Mail office, Jameson’s, TQ Beach
Road, Viking Beachcomber and the Diana Inn.
By displaying these items you will be contributing
towards the success of the Jesters Children’s Fair on Sunday September
11th at the Diana Garden Resort & Driving Range, a fun day, a great day
out and a big day for all the family to enjoy.
Don’t miss the biggest, and best yet, Jesters ‘Care for Kids’
Children’s Fair. Be there, and don’t forget to say hello to the big guy,
Jester Kevin; he is the one who puts the fair together on the day for us all
to enjoy.
Tropical Bert Sponsors Jester’s Care 4 Kids
Customers
and Staff of Tropical Bert’s Beach Bar located at the junction of Beach
Road and Soi Regent Marina have over the last few weeks raised 12,000 Baht
in support of the Jester’s Care 4 Kids. The money was handed over by
Tropical Angie and of course received by everyone’s favourite Jester
Lewis ‘Woody’ Underwood. Bert emphasised that it was the customers and
staff that had done this and they intend to raise around 10,000 Baht every
10 weeks to hand over to needy causes. Please contact Bert if you know of
any other good causes to support.
Kids really act up at Pacific Park, and everyone enjoys the fun
Suchada Tupchai
One hundred children between the ages of seven and 14
converged on Pattaya from all corners of Thailand on August 7 in the Wai Son
Action Room Group 3 event organized between Pacific Park Sriracha and ITV.
The
children enjoyed seeing, and sometimes even touching, some of their favorite
characters from TV.
The children had registered for the event via the mobile
phone 1900 1900 06 system, and the parents of many of them came along to
enjoy the festivities at the 4th floor of Pacific Hall.
Cartoon characters set the scene, with the children eager
to have their photographs taken alongside their favorite character, and
there were games aplenty for all ages.
Aspiring thespians joined in one of the major
attractions, the acting classes led by drama teacher Song-Wajee
Artthakraiwanwathee, from Kantana VDO. She taught the children to express
various moods on stage, such as love, shyness, fear, and anger.
Song-Wajee also taught the children how to use their
imaginations in bringing a story or a character to life. This caused much
hilarity amongst the participants and audience, as the young players
struggled to play the part of a tree or a character that really stretched
their imaginations. Much applause was given to the best performances, no
doubt sowing thoughts of an acting career into many of the happy youngsters.
One parent told Pattaya Mail that she was glad to see her child
participating in an activity like this, as he is often timid and reluctant
to push himself forwards. This event, she said, was an excellent way of
getting the children to express themselves and to interact with others.

Harry Potter at the North Star Library
This month the North Star Library features the latest
Harry Potter book. The children’s and teenagers room will run a Harry
Potter theme with movies on Saturdays and Sundays. The whole series of books
is now available for borrowing in both Thai and English. The latest book is
not yet translated into Thai, but will be in the library as soon as it is
released. Book readings continue on Saturdays for children in both Thai and
English.
It’s
Harry Potter month in August at North Star Library.
The library is sad to say goodbye to Nat, who has been an
active library assistant for the last 3 months. We wish her well with her
studies, which she is resuming, and welcome Wan, who has already completed
her training, and is now working full time at the library.
Wan moved to Pattaya from Surat Thani two years ago. She
is 21 years old, and the 10th of a family of 12 children. Her family home is
situated just behind the mountains of Khao Sok National Park. This area was
not destroyed by the tsunami last December; however, many of her family
members living in Pang Nga died, including her brother who was working in
Phuket at the time.
Wan has completed a computer training and business
management course at the Redemptorist Vocational Training School. She
successfully applied for a scholarship, and was accepted. She finished her
studies 8 months ago and moved to a small apartment in South Pattaya while
looking for work.
She enjoys working at the library and is now also
teaching business students from the Centre. While Thai is her first
language, she is fluent in English.
With Wan’s assistance, the library is now being used
frequently by the Redemptorist Vocational School Students. The hours have
been changed to suit the users, and are as follows:
Monday 12.00 to 8.00 pm
Thursday 12.00 to 4.00 pm
Friday 12.00 to 4.00 pm
Saturday 12.00 to 8.00 pm
Sunday 10.00 to 2.00 pm
There is a fee to join the library, on a 6-month or
12-month basis. The library has an interesting range of fiction, and
reference books, including some out of print early Thai books. The extensive
video library is now available for rent, and has some excellent old movies,
classics, and modern movies.
Thursday afternoon activities include mahjong playing
from 1 p.m. onwards. A fee of 50 baht applies for non members.
The library is available for use throughout the week for room rental. The
play group for up to 3 year olds currently runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday
mornings from 10 a.m. to 12-midday. There is a fee of 250 baht per morning
for this group.
