Be prepared, Songkran week is upon us
This year authorities are once again stressing that Songkran be celebrated in a traditional way, and police have vowed to increase safety for tourists. Nonetheless, we urge you to be extra careful if you need to drive, expect long traffic delays, and please don’t wear your Sunday best out and about during this time. Nationwide, public holidays are April 13 to 17 for government officials and April 13 to 16 for banks and businesses. Locally, however, Songkran is celebrated on April 18 (Naklua) and 19 (Pattaya).

Chonburi governor’s strategy aims at low accident toll over Songkran
Chonburi Province has set a strategy aimed at minimizing the
number of road accidents during the Songkran festival.
Komsan Ekachai, deputy governor of Chonburi said that each year during the
Songkran festival government and private sector offices are closed over a number
of days and this is the time when the public travel by road to their home towns
to spend time with their family members. They also travel to other provinces to
celebrate the festivities. Consequently, during the period there is more traffic
and more road accidents than usual.

The YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya Center and Pattaya Sports Club
laid on a grand lunch for the children currently on remand under the
Chonburi Department of Youth Protection and Probation on March 27.

Football fans were delighted to see the UEFA Champions League trophy on
display in Pattaya last week, as part of a six-week Asian tour arranged in
conjunction with the Federation International de Football Association
(FIFA).
