Judges question young offenders

Thirty-one problem youths who are participating in the 3rd annual boot camp for youths at Wiwat Polamuang School under the Royal Thai Navy were provided with a luncheon talk by the Board of Judges at Chonburi Youth and Family Court on July 6.

Capt. Vuttikrai Pandee, deputy director of Wiwat Polamuang School, addresses the gathering
The program is organized by Pattaya Social Welfare Department.
Head Judge Vorasit Apichartchote, and leader of the Associate Judges Sopin Thappajug addressed the youths during lunch, where the Chonburi Pensioned Civil Servants Band led by Asst Prof Pranee Thianthong provided entertainment.
The Board of Judges asked the youths questions on various matters that could provide useful reference in the future.
Sopin said the 3rd annual boot camp for youths aims to offer occupational training to the youths so that they can support themselves and their families upon returning to society, and to use their free time to benefit rather than getting involved with drugs.

Members of the working committee said that understanding young people who had got themselves into trouble was important, both for the rehabilitation of the youths and for the greater understanding of the problems of the young in general. The youths participating in the program are mostly from Pattaya.
Sopin said that during an interview with Master Anusit Khayanngaan, one of the youths under the care of the courts, he said that the program was good because it taught him self-discipline and that he also received occupational training that would be of benefit to him in earning a living. He said that he had also made new friends.
The lead trainer from Wiwat Polamuang School said that all trainers involved in the 3rd annual boot camp for youths have undergone psychological training, which creates better understanding between the trainers and the youths.
Most of the youths participate in the 45-day program voluntarily. The organizers feel that the current program schedule is too short, and that participants might be tempted to return to the ways that had led them into trouble in the first place, and it is likely the next program will be for a three-month period.

Chonburi Pensioned Civil Servants Ensemble provided entertainment.

Ripley’s General Manager Somporn Naksuetrong presents the donation to Mike Franklin assisted by Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn, Pattaya Mail Director of Marketing Tony Malhotra, Sister Kanyanee Tuanrussamee and the kids from the Fountain of Life Center.

On Friday 3rd August at a preview of Ripley’s Believe It or Not exclusive new show “Quick Change Artist”, opening from 4th – 19th August at the Royal Garden Plaza, a donation of 30,000 baht from the proceeds was presented to Jesters ‘Care for Kids’ by Ripley’s general manager, Somporn Naksuetrong. The generous donation was gratefully received by Mike Franklin, Jesters PR director, on behalf of Lewis ‘Woody’ Underwood and the Jesters ‘Care for Kids’ committee. Before the “Quick Change Artist” preview show there were official notes of welcome from the deputy mayor of Pattaya, Wutisak Rermkitkarn, and the TAT director Region 3 Chaiwat Charoensuk.
The show performed by the world famous duo, Victor and Tatiana Manjos, was indeed an amazing entertainment of the quick change art, and a dazzling magical illusion of colorful and exquisite costumes coming and going in the flash of an eye. It is a show not to be missed and an unforgettable experience for children and adults alike. It certainly was for the twenty or so kids that came from the Fountain of Life Center to the Royal Garden Plaza for the afternoon. A great outing for them and for me too as a number of them took part on stage in the cheque presentation ceremony and at the presentation of the Jesters Certificate of Appreciation to Somporn outside the theatre with Victor and Tatiana after the show. PMTV covered the show and the presentations so watch out for that.
