The Sattahip Naval Base has dispatched two amphibious
vehicles to assist in delivering relief supplies to flood victims in
hard-hit Korat.
HRH Princess Soamsawalee, whose Princess Pa
Foundation works throughout the year to assist flooding victims, asked
the Royal Thai Navy to provide the amphibious assault vehicles to
deliver supplies to Pakthongchai in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, where
the worst floods in 50 years have left six people dead or missing and
hundreds homeless.
Heavy rain and an overflowing Lampraploneg Dam left
Pakthongchai under as much as two meters of water. And more rain is on
the way.
Navy Commander in Chief Adm. Kamthorn Phumhiran
ordered the AAVs to the area to deliver relief supplies as conventional
vehicles cannot navigate the inundated roads. The vehicles, from the
Amphibious Division and Engineering Battalion will assist two flatbed
trucks carrying aid from the Princess Pa Foundation and Thai Red Cross.
The supplies will be delivered to individuals after
being transferred at central locations to small boats.
