Latte bubbles and the world’s most expensive coffees are brewing at Royal Garden Plaza as the mall stages the Thailand International Coffee & Bakery Show through May 11.

The exhibition, which began May 5, will see baristas compete to see who can create the most-creative latte bubbles. The May 6-7 contest judges the “art of milk bubbles” for both single and double espressos. The winner of the Tea and Coffee Association of Thailand event will take home the HRH Princess Chulabhorn trophy.

The highlight of the show, however, will be the opportunity to taste the 10 most expensive coffees in the world. Topping that list is Indonesia’s “Kopi Luwak” made famous by the 2008 Jack Nicholson film “The Bucket List.” The brew, priced at about 10,000 baht per kilogram, is made from coffee beans eaten and excreted by Asian Pal Civet.

Thais who can afford kit call Luwak “cat musk coffee” and claim it has a “wild” taste hinting of chocolate and coconut that leaves the mouth feeling fresh and clean.

Also on the list of costly coffees are Yauco Selecto AA from Puerto Rico, Rwanda Blue Bourbon from Rwanda, Kona Coffee from Hawaii, Losplanes from El Salvador, Ines Fazen from Brazil, Gyate Mala Antigug from Latin America, St. Helena Coffee from the United Kingdom and Hacienda Ia Esmeralda from Panama.

Finally, the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum in the mall’s top level is running a 60,000 baht coffee cream drawing competition. Application for the contest can be made by calling 038-710-294 or online at RipleysThailand.com.
