After falling short in final judging three straight years, 14-year-old Annchalee Wildgatsch from Photisampan Pittayakarn School finally succeeded in becoming Pattaya’s latest youth ambassador.

Part of a team of three students from her school, Annchalee beat out 252 other youngsters to win the Young PR ASmbassador title, along with this year’s best orator award. Annchalee, and her teammates RattanSaporn SrisathSien and Suwajjana Chanthachote, won 30,000 baht in prizes for the Photisampan Pittayakarn School, including a sash for each team member and a team trophy, announced at Central Center Pattaya’s center stage on July 8.

Judged by representatives from Pattaya City, Tikalang Cultural School, Hard Rock Hotel, Sanctuary of Truth and Pattaya Mail, the annual contest saw 252 students start out taking knowledge exams about the area, with 25 teams of three chosen in March to move forward.

A major selection criterion is that applicants must have a solid grasp of the area’s history. The exam covers Pattaya City administration and history, the city’s global image, speech-making and presentation, cultural arts and basic English.

Once selected, the students become the city’s next tourism ambassadors to help promote Pattaya.

Finishing second behind Phothisamphan’s Teen Angel Team was the SUS One Team from Satit Udomsuksa School, made up of Pareploy Petcharabooranin, Pichaya Peripat and Jessy Knight, which took home 20,000 baht in prizes and the runners up team trophy.

“We are ready” - great friendship beyond boundaries.

Jirapreeya Rattanan, Pichaya Masom and Poonsiri Wankangsai made up the Matchanu Team from Srisuwit School and came third, winning 10,000 baht and the second runners up trophy.

Tanakorn Suntornnon from Satit Udomsuksa School won the Most Talented award.

“This is the fourth consecutive year I’ve attended and I reached the final round each year,” Annchalee said. “This year was different in that there were new lecturers who gave me speaking tips and I had friends from other schools to exchange knowledge with and support me and I’m very proud… To be a Pattaya youth ambassador is the only thing I’ve wanted for four years and if I didn’t win, I would have joined the contest again next year,” she said.

For the final round, each team must show their skills in singing, performing and dancing (5 minutes); and another 5 minutes in speaking where the topic will be drawn on the spot. Each member must talk about the topic picked with relation to Pattaya Tourism and public relations.

Throughout the month a special bond has been created among the students from various schools throughout Chonburi. Professionals in various fields taught all of the qualified students team building, various skills, and new knowledge.
