From breakdancing to samba, teams of amateur dancers
showed off their best moves in hopes of winning more than 75,000 baht at the
Hard Rock Hotel’s ‘Step Up Dance ‘12’ contest.

‘Kame Chan’ team took the
first runner-up prize.
The “Metro Grooverz” placed first among the 11
participating teams in the Jan. 21 contest, splitting 76,200 baht among its
members. “Kame Chan” placed second, winning 37,700 baht, with teams “Chubby
Dance Crew” and “I Feel Good” winning 13,700 baht third prizes. The “LST
Crew” won the 10,000 baht “Facebook Vote” for getting the most fan “likes”
on the social-networking website.
‘Step Up ’12’ was one a series of performing arts
exhibitions staged at the music-themed hotel. Participating dancers saw it
as a chance to highlight their skills in hopes of getting paid dancing gigs
in the future.
Judges included Pasrint Saewarat, assistant Tourism
Authority of Thailand Pattaya director; Rungratree Thongsrai, tourist
publications staffer for the Pattaya Permanent Secretary’s Office; Wasurat
Yabaanpaeng, from the California Wow gym; and Shinawut Jantharat of B-boy
Cheno 99 Flava.
Thai and foreign dance fans alike applauded the dancers,
enjoying a “Beat Box Music Mix” interlude between rounds with police Sub.
Lt. Korawik “DJ Van” Janthden mixing tracks and a performance from Hard Rock
Caf้ house band “Rock Agent.”
