Norway’s Department of Children and Youth Policy
plans to work with Pattaya social workers to investigate whether
Norwegian-Thai children are being abused.
Deputy Director-General Eli Grut and advisor
Per-Aubrey Bugge Tenden met with Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome Sept. 19 to
discuss guidelines on how the Norwegian agency can work with the Pattaya
Social Welfare Department to visit Thai-Norwegian families and
investigate living conditions for the interracial children.
Grut said her visit was prompted by reports filed by
Norwegian churches in Bangkok and Pattaya about at-risk living
situations for Norwegian-Thai kids. She said the Norwegian government
can aid children through churches.
The agency wants to visit Thai-Norwegian couples with
children and evaluate any risks to physical and mental health. In cases
where abuse is discovered, children would be sent to the Chonburi
Shelter for Children and Family temporarily before further help s
provided.
In addition, the Chonburi Immigration Department will
be contacted to investigate any suspected violence perpetrated by the
Norwegian parent.
